There’s more to technician mobility than movement: Work Anywhere and Enchanced Work History

Field work is mobile by nature. A technician starts a job at the truck, walks into a plant, climbs to a rooftop unit, then wraps up paperwork back at the depot on a shared tablet. Along the way, they switch devices, switch locations, and sometimes hand a job off to a teammate entirely.

Every field platform has to answer one deceptively simple question: When the technician moves, does the work move with them?

At TrueContext, two capabilities close the gaps that used to make that answer “mostly.” Together, they tell a single story about what mobility should really mean on the ground. Work Anywhere carries a technician’s own in-progress work from one device to the next. Enhanced Work History carries the organization’s past work into the job at hand. One is continuity across devices. The other is continuity across visits, forms, and people. True mobility needs both to earn its name.

Across devices

Work Anywhere

Drafts belong to the technician, not the device. Save a form on one device and finish it on another with every answer, reading, and attachment intact.

Outcomes

Switch devices mid-job without restarting a form
No lost work when a device dies or acts up
Offline-first on iOS, Android, and Windows

Across visits, forms, and people

Enhanced Work History

Relevant past work appears inside the active form, matched by asset, site, project, customer, person, or product.

Outcomes

Review earlier jobs on an asset or site before accepting a dispatch
Catch degradation early by comparing readings across visits
Junior technicians reuse proven fixes from experienced colleagues

Continuity across devices: Work Anywhere

Picture a technician who saves an in-progress form as a draft on the tablet in the truck, then walks into the depot and picks up a shared device to finish. Historically, that draft existed on the first device only. The technician had to restart the form, re-enter data, or stay tethered to a single piece of hardware all day. That means when a device died or acted up, their work got interrupted.

That kind of device-bound work runs against what people now expect from any mobile software. Your email, your notes, and your photos follow you from phone to laptop without a second thought. Field forms are expected to behave the same way.

Work Anywhere makes drafts user-level instead of device-level. When a technician saves and exits on Device A, the draft uploads to the server on the next reconcile. When they pick up Device B, it downloads on reconcile with everything intact: full answers, captured data, and attachments. The draft belongs to the person, not the machine.

It also builds on the reconciliation model TrueContext already uses, so the offline-first architecture stays exactly as it is. There’s no requirement for always-on connectivity, and the same continuity works across iOS, Android, and Windows. A technician in a basement or a remote site keeps working the way they always have. Their draft simply catches up when the device syncs.

One draft, any device

Device A

Save and exit

The technician saves an in-progress form as a draft on the tablet in the truck.

Server

Sync on reconcile

The draft uploads the next time the device reconciles. No always-on connection required.

Pick up and finish

On a shared tablet at the depot, the draft downloads with everything intact:

Continuity across assets, jobs, sites, and time: Enhanced Work History

Moving your own work between devices solves half the mobility problem. The other half is the work that came before you: the last inspection on this asset, the readings from the previous visit, the fix a senior colleague applied six months ago.

Enhanced Work History surfaces that context right inside the active workflow. It matches submissions by a mapped entity, the category that identifies who or what a form is about: Asset, Site, Project, Customer, Person, or Product. When a technician opens a form tied to one of those entities, relevant past work appears automatically, filtered to what matters instead of an overwhelming archive.

It comes in two forms. Record History gives a list-level view of past submissions related to the same entity, drawn from any form, so a technician can review earlier jobs on that asset or site before they even accept a dispatch. Data History goes deeper, showing answer-level history from previous submissions of the same form: past temperatures, pressures, or fluid levels for the exact question in front of them, viewable as a list or a graph at the page, section, or question level.

The payoff shows up on every visit. A junior technician can see how an experienced colleague handled a similar job and replicate the solution without repeating the mistake. A troubleshooter can spot a degradation pattern by comparing readings across service events and catch a problem before it becomes downtime. And because Work History follows the same offline-first design, that context stays available where field teams actually work, not just where there’s a strong signal.

One story: Your work follows you, and so does the work before you

Work Anywhere means your own in-progress work is never trapped on one device. Enhanced Work History means the knowledge your team has already built is never trapped in the back office.

When a technician changes devices, changes sites, or inherits a job from a colleague, nothing has to be rebuilt from scratch, and no data has to be chased. The work follows the worker. The history follows the work.

Mobility was never really about the device. It’s about making sure that wherever your people go, everything they need to do the job well goes with them.
